New governor wanted

We are looking for a new, co-opted (non-parent) governor to join our governing body.

Governors act as ‘critical friends’ to school leaders, helping agree the strategic direction for the school and supporting leaders to improve the impact the school has on children, e.g. through improving outcomes and the quality of our curriculum. The post would be for a four-year term.

We would be delighted to hear from anyone who:-

  • Can help us build on our existing strengths and fulfil our ambitions to improve
  • Can undertake the role’s commitments for the four-year term (about ten meetings a year plus associated reading beforehand as well as at least one school visit per year).
  • Can balance both support and challenge as a ‘critical friend’ when holding the headteacher and school leaders to account for the educational performance of the school.
  • Can be an effective member of a team.

How could this role benefit the potential governor?

  • A chance to develop your own personal skills
  • Access to a programme of free training in respect of education/governance matters
  • A sense of achievement in helping make a difference to children’s lives
  • Support and guidance from a group of governors keen to work together productively to help our school improve

We’re committed to making sure our governing body reflects the diversity of the community we serve. We would particularly welcome applications from people whose backgrounds and experiences are currently underrepresented on the governing body, including those from Black, Asian and other minority ethnic communities. We are especially keen to hear from individuals with lived experience of the Afro-Caribbean community, which is a significant part of our school population. We are also looking for people who have experience of marketing/PR and/or finance.

If you would like to express an interest in this role please email admin@ashmead.lewisham.sch.uk by 5.00pm on Monday 14th July to arrange an informal discussion about this.
